IV. Andthisalfo may comfort fuch as are affliéed withthe Gout, that as every
one hath his proper Calamity 5, fo likewife every man hath a Conmmodity ptoperly beiongingto him; andchat che Gout isfaid co’bethe Rich mans. Difeafe: - For al- though thofe that are troubled with the Gout do indeed fuffer a great pain: yer moft of chem are fuch as have a plentiful Effdtés or at leaft they have what is fufi- cient; whereas on theConcrary, there are many who although they be free from this pain, yec they lie under other daily preffures and grievances, by Reafon of their poverty. Lhe Gout ( as Cardanus in his Encominin ofthe Gout writeth) dmeleth and is fenfible of {weer Uniguents, heareth Songs and Muflick, lyeth (proud as itis) in foft beds, upon Silken Pillows, betwixt Gold, and Pearls, and painted Tables, hearech Tales and pleafant ftories, caftech generous and Rich Wines, and the more delicate and dainty kind of Meats. Ic hath prefented unto it pleafant and delightful flowers, Embroydered garinénts,; and whatfoever hath ambitioufly for many years been heaped up by wealthy Gicizéns, or even by Kings themfelves. And the Gout is fo far bleffed, that he whois dereined thereby, befides the pain it felf,; hath nothing to hinder hinvfrom living a happy life,
