Book could not appear under a more pro »

per Title , than that of the Hermetical
Triumph: Or, The Victorious Philofo*
phical Stone. Nothing remains to be faid ,
except that the Author of the Tranfia-
iion (who is likwife the fame of the Com¬
mentary^ and of the Letter which is at
the End of this Book) has had no other In¬
ter eß or View in this , but to manifefl the

The PREFACE. •i

Truth to thofe who afpire to the Knowledge
*?/ ^0 from fuch Motives as are proper to
the true Children of the Science : He alfo
deilares , and proteßs fincerely , that he
dejires with all his Heart, that thofe who
are fo unfortunate as to lofe their time
hi working with foreign or diflant Mat¬
ters, may find themf elves enlightned by read¬
ing this Book, in order to know the true
and only Matter of the Philofophers -, and.
that thoje who know the fame already, but
are ignorant of the great Point, viz. the
Solution of the Sïone, and the Coagulati¬
on of the Water, and of the Spirit of the
Body, which is the Term [or Endf of the
Vniverfal Medicine, may here learn thofe
fecret Operations, which are here dijlinclly
enough defcribed for them.

The Author has not thought proper to
write in Latin, becaufe he could not be-
lieve, like many others, that to treat of
theje high Myßeries in a vulgar Tongue,
is to reveal them : He has followed the

TH

General Explication

OF THE

EMBLEME

Tranflated from the French.

Â| T ought not to be expected to find here
* a particular Explication, fuch as fhould
undraw the Curtains which are fipread
over the philofophick Enigma, for to

_ _ fhew the Truth quite naked , ror if that

were [done], there would remain nothing more to
be done but to burn all the Writings of the Philoso¬
phers • The Wife would not have any more Advan¬
tage over the Ignorant ; the one and the other would
be equally skilled in this wonderful Art.

It ought therefore to be thought Sufficient to fee
in this Figure, as in a Looking-Glafs, the Abridge¬
ment of the whole fecret Philofophy, which is con¬
tained in this little Book, in which all the Parts of
this Emblem are explained as clear as it is permitted

to be done,

Those

Those that are initiated in the Philofbphick My-
Series, will ealily and prefently comprehend the Senfe
which is hid under this Figure. But thole who have
not thele Lights, mull here confider in general a mu¬
tual Correlpondence betwixt the Heavens and the
Earth, by Means of the Sun and Moon, who are like
the leeret Ties of this Philolophical Union.

They will lee in the Practice of the Worck, two
parabolical Rivulets, who confounding [or mixing]
themlêlvcs lecretly together., give Birth to the my-
iterious Triangular Stone, which is the Foundation
of the Art.

They will lee a leeret and natural Fire, of which
the Spirit penetrating the Stone, fublimes it in Va¬
pours, who condenle themfdves in the Vefïèl.

They will lee what Efficacy theliiblimed Stone
receives of the Sun and Moon, who a: e its Father
and Mother, of whom it inherits prefently its firft
Crown of Perfection.

They will lee in the Continuation of the Pra¬
ctice, [or in the Progreß of the Work,] that the Art
gives to this Divine Liquor a double Crown of Perfe¬
ction, by the Converlion of Elements, and by the
^Extraction and the Depuration of the Principles, by
which it becomes to be that myfterious Rod of Mer¬
cury, which operates [or performs] fuch llirprifing
Metamorpholings .

They will lee that this fame Mercury , as a Phoe¬
nix, who takes a new Birth in the Fire, arrives by
the Magiftery to the lall Perfection of the fixed Sul¬
phur of the Philolophers, which gives it a fovercigrt
rower over the three Genders [or Reigns] of Na¬
ture ; of which the three-fold Crown ( upon which
is let for this Purpole the Hieroglyphick Figure of
the World) is the molt material [or effential] Cha¬
racter.
