Chapter 2
Section 2
Only as a result of such regeneration can the Soul of man be awakened, and receive [//umination from on high, know God and establish communion with Him. And this is the true purpose of man’s life—only this can give him true happiness by liberating him from the thralldom of sin and from the suffering always accompanying sin, and by enabling man to overcome the fear of death through realizing clearly its illusory nature.
Salvation Through RIGHT LIVING
THE Rosicrucians teach that salvation is achieved not through belief in certain unintelligible dogmas, or through the performance of certain ceremonies, but by acquiring the knowledge of truth and by /iving in accordance with this knowledge.
We teach that salvation comes only through regeneration and that regener- ation comes as a result of renouncing error, accepting Truth and working hard at bringing our life—our thinking, feeling, willing and acting—into Perfect agreement with the Truth.
Development of Physical Organism
Tue Rosicrucians do not advocate an extreme asceticism, a contempt of the body and its needs, as taught by the monastic Orders, the early American sectarians and by certain mystic orders of the Orient. The Rosicrucian teach- ing is that the physical organism of man must be harmoniously developed through proper diet, the correct control of the sex forces, and breathing exer- cises adapted to racial and individual peculiarities—so that the body may become an obedient servant of the Soul and a fit temple of the Divinity which dwells in a truly Illuminated man.

THE AN CTE NE
Marriage Teachings
Tue Initiates of the Rosicrucian Fraternity believe in marriage and the sacredness of the marriage relationship, but teach that Love is the only bond that can hold the twain in Unity. They teach to their Acolytes (or Neo- phytes) a higher method of generative principles and a mode of re-generation —God’s way as sanctioned by the Law—which confers greater power, and which does not make of men and women empty shells as now so frequently results from purely physical embrace.
This method maintains youth and youthfulness of the spirit, and holds in check premature old age and senility. It inculcates a natural exchange and the storage of forces of the physical, mental, and spiritual man.
We hold, in fact, that no power ever comes to man through the intellect (the intellect being cold, while wisdom is of the heart and founded in love). We say that power comes only to the Soul through Love (not lust, mind you), but Jove, the undying primal Fire-life, subtending the basis of being—the formative flowing floor of the world—the true sensing of which is the begin- ning of the road to personal power.
Love lieth at the foundation and is the synonym of life and strength and clingingness. “Thus it happens that a loving couple grow youthful in Soul because, in their union, they strike this Divine Spark, replenish themselves with the essence of life, grow stronger and less brutal and draw down to themselves the divine Fire from the Aerial spaces.
This happens now only by accident. Couples not loving exhaust each other and wear their souls to shreds, so that after death they enter the ethereal realms in a state of immortal scrawniness, requiring a long lapse to reach celestial plumptitude. We claim methods of averting all this.
We believe (and teach) also:
—that true manhood is more or less en rapport with one or more of the Upper or Invisible Hierarchies of Intelligent Potentialities, and that there are means whereby a person may become associated with and receive instructions from them.
—in the 4th Mystery of the Will which, properly cultivated, as the Priesthood teaches it, is the highest aid to man.
—that we, The Rosicrucian Brotherhood, alone hold the true knowl- edge of the latent energies of Celestial Fire; that we understand the laws of Love, Will and Ethereal force and the principles and modes of their evolution and development; that we understand crystalliza-

tion, the result aimed at being the elimination of the gross, and their orderly consolidation into Personal Power.
—that we know there are certain aims, forces, ends, energies, powers and abilities longed for vainly by untold millions of people, both men and women, throughout the world. We know the road to these, and we are able to direct the wayfarer in the paths that, though he or she be a mere weakling, one cannot go astray.
—in The Law of Thought which is taught to the student—as are those of Image Formation, and Vivification (or giving life and reality) of the Image.
—In its Arcane work, the Great Breath Mystery is fully explained, so that the student will have a sure foundation upon which to work.
These are but a few of the innumerable important Laws which have been taught to the Acolytes in the Fraternity for the past centuries and are still part of the instructions given. “This knowledge and training are yours if you enroll with us and place yourself under the guidance of the Master Teachers connected with the Order.
Practical Methods—Complete Instruction
ROSICRUCIANISM is not an abstract philosophical teaching, but a practical inculcation concerning the Laws of Life (as partially outlined); and this can be mastered only through the right kind of living (which we also teach).
The Rosicrucian Fraternity (member of the Confederation of Initiates) thus gives complete instructions—dealing with much of the fascinating history of ancient secret schools, mystic symbols and the like; aiding the Neophyte (or the student) in casting out his present doubts and fears, replacing these with courage and conviction; enabling him, or her, to develop the WHOLE SELF—body, mind and soul; to the end that “ye be born anew.”
Rosicrucie, the Rosy Cross and all that is Rosicrucian, must be considered as a thoroughly ethical Society dealing with the welfare of human Souls, and by the Ancient Landmarks is, like Masonry, forbidden to advertise or to proselyte for members, and its only means of approach is by means of con- servative literature and books dealing with its history and philosophy, and this booklet is, therefore, an invitation to you to investigate.
“Rosicruce is spiritual, not material; a Fraternity rather than an Order [an Order nevertheless]. Its members are gathered from the East and West, from among the lofty and lowly, the learned and the unlearned, wherever there are free Souls, and sympathetic

Aa,
Names and symbols are used in a similar way for individuals who have a special mission to perform in life as regards spiritual affairs. When a man, after long study, careful training and repeated trials, finally proves himself, and is spiritually accepted by the Hierarchies, he is given a spiritual name and with it a symbol of his office, to be used by him as a seal or otherwise, to prove his

Every individual who has become, first, an Initiate in the Brotherhood of the Rosy Cross, and, second, has been selected as a Grand Master of the Fraternity, receives such a symbol, insignia or coat of arms from the Hierarchy; this is known as his Signature or “House,” and thus we say: The House of Andrea or House of Randolph, and his authority and his work are thereafter recognized by his insignia.
The United States, because of the Mystic Prophecy made concerning it, has a working Seal and also an wzfinished or prophetic Seal, this latter portraying the Mystic mission of the Nation, and to be used only after that work has been accomplished. This Seal is known as the “House of the United States of a United People.”

and aspiring natures. It embraces all ages, races and climes, and reaches from the visible far into the invisible realms of being. Silence, secrecy and unpretending good works are its characteristics, and one member may pass his life next door to another and neither be aware of the bond between them unless some stress of need draws the curtain aside. ‘The law of Silence is particularly emphasized, obedience to the injunction to ‘enter into the closet and shut the door’ being imperative on all who would have access to the sources of power.” —Freeman B. Dowd in The Temple, 1897. ‘This is the Ancient Law as well as the Spirit of the August Fraternity. ‘This organization, sometimes known as the “Randolph Foundation,” which has had Councils in America since 1773? and a Supreme Grand Lodge since 1858, most sacredly adheres to all of the ancient landmarks, inculcates the original wisdom, follows in the footsteps of the Old Masters in the training of its Neophytes and adapts the original Laws Leading to Mastership to meet modern conditions.

PART TWO
“The Right Use Of Knowledge Is Power”
The Path to Potwer
INCE the beginning of time, real men and women have desired power. ‘They have sought, as you are seeking, for a means of self-improve- ment, or a betterment of their position in life.
In some people, this desire has gone beyond control—has become
a greed that demanded control over others, has produced the ancient and the
modern dictator. In such cases, the very power that has been sought inevitably
destroys the seeker.
Why? Is it because this desire for power is in itself wrong? No, no, and again no! ‘The urge to rise which you feel within yourself is a natural, a rightful urge. |
How, then, to translate this urge into action—how find the power that you seek, the power to accomplish the ends you have in view, the goal you would like to reach?
Seek knowledge first! Then—and this is most important, learn to use this knowledge!
Knowledge Alone Not Power
“KNOWLEDGE IS PowER,” as an axiom, has come to us from down the cen- ‘turies and, seemingly, has never been challenged by anyone. ‘The Initiate (one who KNOWS) admits that knowledge is power, but contends that this is stating a half-truth only and, in many respects, is deceptive and mis- leading. “Therefore, he maintains that knowledge is power (constructively so) only when right use is made of the knowledge possessed.
Hence, the axiom should read, ‘““The right use of knowledge is power.”
It is only by the constructive use of his energies that man may obtain true efficiency for himself. And it is the purpose of the Higher Occult, through the medium of secret Fraternities, to teach this constructive use to those who really aspire; to show these sincere men and women the “way” that leads the acolyte to all things desirable—whether they be wealth, health, success, happi- ness, peace of mind or the faculties and beatitudes belonging particularly to the Soul itself.
How many men and women there are whose lives are incomplete—who live from day to day in the shadow of ungained desires; who, if they are in business, are “in a rut’; or whose domestic or home life is a silly, boresome round of petty happenings—or a tragic road of maladjustment and unhap- piness !
J 21h
THEY ANCIENT SC EHO OP Och Na her
“*The Way’ Open to All
“Is THERE no way out?” they cry. Indeed there is a way! ‘The hope they hold—the instinctive knowledge they possess that there must be a better Path of Life—is a real indication that such a Path exists. ;
Again, there are those who, unknowing, have progressed along this Path—_ to whom some measure of success and happiness has come—but who seem to have reached their own “limit.” Is greater happiness—success—power—at- tainable by these more fortunate humans? By all means!
To all who read this message, we, the Rosicrucian Fraternity, say: there is in our possession a Body of Knowledge, and known, proved methods of applying this knowledge which have and can be used by anyone as a means’ to Power and Happiness. :
We claim to know the Great Secret, and to be able to teach all mankind many things concerning the body, soul, will, prolongation of existence, and Concentration of Mental Energy seldom dreamed of by modern thinkers.
A New Life for VOU
AND a new life cannot be brought forth without pain and the shedding of old decay. New ideas are not born in the mind without the pains and pangs of parturition. To free ourselves of our old ingrained errors of false teachings” ‘ is like having to tear up by the root the snag of one’s own teeth with one’s” own hand. i
New Light and life, however, do not come to impoverish but to enrich, and no harm can befall the nature of that which is eternally true. It is only that within man which is based on falsehood and error that fears the trans- figuring torch of light.
I 22 I
Ge, the Rosicrucians, Hold Chese Things to Be True
E, the Rosicrucian Fraternity or Rosicrucian Brotherhood, further hold that there are A‘thereal (special) centers of Love, of Power, of Force, of Energy, of Goodness for, and of, every kind, grade, species and order of knowledge known to man—and whereof man
knows nothing.
Let us examine for a moment a few of the other “systems,” so called, some of the ‘laws of living” which claim to give freedom and ultimate salva- tion to their followers.
Certain of these totally ignore the body, mortify the flesh (the teachings of the self-styled Hindu “Swamis”) and render life truly a semi-graveyard procedure from birth to death. Others allow the utmost limit of materialism and license to the elect, and roundly berate all others outside their pale.
s oul Salvation Not Enough
Most current systems in this country, however, bend all their energies towards the salvation of men’s souls, and, in spending their time in trying to get souls into heaven, lose sight of the bodies which hold these souls. They are practi- cally consigned to another place, so lightly are they held. "These systems wholly lose sight of the fundamental principle of human nature, which is to take delight in doing the very thing which is sternly forbidden.
We KNOW that the body, on earth, is of as great value as the Soul, for without the body (a good body at that) Soul development is an utter impos- sibility. “Therefore, we teach the equal development of both body and Soul.
The Vision of Atth
WE HOotp that there is a POSITIVE pole to the Soul, the place of which cannot be taught in any book. We declare, however, that the student, if he is faithful, cannot only learn where the Pole is, but that he may be able to SEE the Soul with his physical eyes; that he cannot only see the Soul, but that if he becomes an Initiate, which he can if he is faithful, see the Aéth as well in all its wonderful power and beauty.

THE ANCIENT, SCHOOL OR Na fags
Furthermore, we maintain that he can USE and direct the Ath for health and healing, for love and success, and for the coming into touch with any of | the Invisible Hierarchies if his purpose is for good.
These things, and many more, the Rosicrucian Fraternity holds to
be true. These things, we say, are within your grasp. They can
become yours if you join with us—travel the Path with us—prove
yourself worthy to receive them. Details as to how you may do this are given elsewhere. i
Fear the DESTROY ER
Do you still hesitate to take the first step? What holds you back? Some lack of conviction? Perhaps. But more than likely, FEAR—fear the destroyer. Hy
“What is man but a god who is afraid,” wrote the great Maeterlinck.
It is fear that paralyzes man’s natural forces. Fear that retards his prog- ress and compels him to retrace his steps, though he knows that the path > whereon he has trod, and can tread still farther, is the way to life and all that is worth while.
