Imitation of Christ

Chapter 176

V. And do thou, O my Soul, labour continually to

ftrengthen thy ownFrailties andFears, with holy Medi- tations, with the repeated Exercifes of Faith, and Re- pentance, of Truft, and Love, and Heavenly-minded- nefs. Bid adieu to this vain World, and ihake hands with it cheerfully. As for all that isuneafy here, thank God for a Deliverance from it ^ And for all whom thou haft reafon to love and be concerned for, remember, that thou leaveft them under the Condud of the fame good Providence, of which thy felf haft had fo large Expe- rience. Confider, that God is All Relations, and more than All, to thofe that want them ; and, if they continue to feek andferve him diligently, he will never forfake them, but be their God, and their Guide unto Death. Bid all my Friends weep, not for Me, but for them- felves^who are ftill in aState of Danger and Temptati- on,of Vanity andMlfery ; from which they that die in the Lord are forever freed. Tell them, that we fhall fee one another again (hortly. And a§ I am going now to thofe dear and good Souls, who have got the ftaift of me in this Journey ; fo They, and I, and all Go^'s Children, fhall have a glorious, a joyful Meeting, at the Refurre ther into a Place, whence Tears and Mourning are for ever banifti'd ; wher^ the YiriQaof God, the Se^r

vice of the Lamb, the Company of Angels and Saints, ftiall minifter eternal Matter of Praife and Joy ; and our Happincfs will exceed all we can conceive, all we can hope for. And now, O Death, where , cor.xv.ss. is thy Sting ? O Grave, where is thy Vi^ory ? Thanks be to God, who hath given us the Vidory, thro' our Lord Jefus Chrift. Therefore (my SoulJ be thou ftedfaft, unmovable, always abounding in the Work of the Lord, forafmuch as I am alTured, that my Labour fiiall not be in vain in the Lord.
