There being now nine Chapters in the Province, the fact was laid before H.E.H. the Prince of Wales who at once issued to Sir Walter Burrell a patent appointing bim Provincial Grand Superintendent of Sussex. The ceremony of his installation took place in the Eoyal Pavilion, Brighton, on the 23rd April, 1881, Lieut.-Col. Shadwell H. Clerke, grand scribe e., being the installing officer. There were upwards of sixty Principals and Past Principals present, among them being the following : — Oomps, Capt. N. G. Phillips, P.G.S.N. ; Sir J. B. Monckton, P.G. Psm. SOJB. ; P. de Lande Long, p.g.p. soje. ; Eev. E. J. Simpson, P.G. ASSIST. SOJE. ; Lieut.-Col. H. S. SomervOle Burney, G.S.B. ; Thomas Penn, p.g.s.b. ; E. Letchworth, p. peov. g. eeg. Middlesex ; H. W. Charrington, p. peov. g.p, soje., Surrey ; John Harrison, P. peov. g.p. soje., Hants ; Thomas Francis, p, peov. g. asst. soje., Hants ; Lord Arthur HiU, P.Z. 66, and others. A Grand Chapter was opened in due form, and a deputation having escorted Sir Walter Burrell into the Chapter, his patent of appointment was read and he was forthwith obligated ajid installed ; he was then pro- claimed and saluted as Prov. G. Superintendent. He then appointed as his Prov. G. H., Comp. John Henderson Scott, geand standard beaeee, who was duly obligated and installed, and as Prov. G. J., Comp. G. King, P.Z. 271 who was also duly obligated and installed. The Compa- nions selected to fill the other offices were —
