This work is somewhat similar in design to the author’s “‘Sidelignts on Freemasonry.” It is, however, of wider
} scope, for whereas the work just mentioned refers exclusively
to Pure and Ancient Freemasonry, as defined by the Book of Constitution, the present work goes farther afield. As indicated by its title, the earlier chapters are devoted
f to descriptions of the many ‘‘ By-ways,” or side Degrees.
Several of these are discussed in the first chapter, and of others more extended notice is given under separate head- ings, and there is inciuded a lecture on the Tracing Board of the Mark Degree. The contents of the volume are as foliows, and it may be said that cach chapter 1s complete in
