This extensive work is divided into four parts : i treats of the grand theories of chemistry ; 2, of the metalloids and their chief compounds ; 3. of the metals ; 4, of organic chemistry. The author omits albuminoid sub- stances as belonging to biology rather than chemistry. In the preface the author exhibits characteristic national bias and says: " La chimie scientifique est done dans ses grandes lignes, une science fran9aise. C'est pour le demontrer que le present ouvrage a ete e'crit."
